I was born in Paris. My youngest daughter, Clara, who sings on several of my songs, was born in Manhattan. We are both French-American.
Music was part of my youth, but life took me elsewhere for many years. I eventually found my way back to it — not through a plan, but simply because songs began to come.
For many years, we lived just steps from Central Park, surrounded by family life: walks through the park, children growing up, ordinary days and small moments that somehow stay with you.
Then the children took flight. In my own way, I did too — through music.
I write in French and in English. Some songs exist in both languages; others belong naturally to one or the other. They speak of friendship, love and tenderness, of time passing, longing and absence, of our children, our planet, and occasionally of the darker things we all have to face.
I don't set out to write about any particular subject. I follow whatever arrives.
These songs come from moments, people and feelings I wanted to hold on to. Once they are released, they no longer belong entirely to me. If something in them finds an echo in someone else's life, that is more than enough.

Je suis né à Paris. Ma plus jeune fille, Clara, qui chante sur plusieurs de mes chansons, est née à Manhattan. Nous sommes tous les deux franco-américains.
La musique a fait partie de ma jeunesse, puis la vie m’a emmené ailleurs pendant de nombreuses années. J’y suis finalement revenu — non pas par choix délibéré, mais simplement parce que les chansons ont commencé à venir.
Pendant de nombreuses années, nous avons vécu à quelques pas de Central Park, au rythme de la vie de famille : les promenades dans le parc, les enfants qui grandissent, les jours ordinaires et ces petits moments qui, sans qu’on sache vraiment pourquoi, restent en nous.
Puis les enfants ont pris leur envol. À ma manière, j’ai fait de même — à travers la musique.
J’écris en français et en anglais. Certaines chansons existent dans les deux langues ; d’autres appartiennent naturellement à l’une ou à l’autre. Elles parlent d’amitié, d’amour et de tendresse, du temps qui passe, du manque et de l’absence, de nos enfants, de notre planète, et parfois aussi des choses plus sombres auxquelles nous sommes tous confrontés.
Je ne décide pas à l’avance de ce dont je vais écrire. Je suis simplement ce qui vient.
Ces chansons sont nées de moments, de personnes et de sentiments que je voulais retenir un peu. Une fois qu’elles sont publiées, elles ne m’appartiennent plus tout à fait. Si quelque chose en elles trouve un écho dans la vie de quelqu’un d’autre, alors c’est déjà beaucoup.
